What the heck does this mean? Contact Oklahoma's Red Dirt Emporium

Oklahoma's name comes from the Choctaw words: "okla" meaning people and "humma" meaning red.  The state's name literally means "red people."

Oklahoma's rich and diverse history is absolutely unique, and part of our store's mission is to honor that history. First and foremost, this store celebrates our state.

We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand!
-- "Oklahoma"
Rodgers & Hammerstein

"Red Dirt" describes the hard-working, gritty, independent spirit of the people who settled our state throughout its history.  Not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get a dusting of Oklahoma's famous red soil, those people set an industrious, innovative standard that is still evident today.

The term also refers to a genre of music that has strong Oklahoma roots.  Along with music from other state-based musicians, we are proud to feature the work of these musical pioneers.

We are proud to be called Oklahoma's Red Dirt Emporium.
